Project Description:
Nestled on the east slope of the Sangre de Christo Mountains in Northern New Mexico, the 288 acre site extends up the mountainside 3 miles from an elevation of 7,200 to 10,140 feet above sea level. Anchored in the mountainside with an unobstructed panorama of the Coyote River Valley, the house is organized along a 2 foot wide cast-in-place concrete axial wall which emerges from the mountainside and steps down the slope alluding to geological formations. Sloped and butterfly roofs terrace down. Punctuated openings capture views. Multiple sheltered courtyards extend the indoor-outdoor living spaces. Approach to the house over a steel bridge spans across a drainage channel.
